Our breasts tend to be more sensitive during certain days of our cycle. Try to schedule your test for a day where your breast will be less sensitive.
 

Try to schedule your test early in the day. Preferably first thing in the morning.
 

When grooming for the day of your mammogram, do not wear any powder, deodorant, cream or perfume. One reason I suggested scheduling early in the day, is because you will not be able to put on your deodorant until after your test.
 

Do not wear a dress to take your test. Wear a blouse with slacks or a skirt. Normally you will be asked to remove your top and bra, and put on a short hospital gown, the length of a blouse, then wait in the waiting room with other women who are there for their mammogram. You will feel pretty silly if you are sitting there in your panties and a short gown.
 

You have enough to worry about, don’t stress over the possibility that it will be a man giving you the test. According to the mammographer I spoke to, women administer the test, not men. If there are men in the field, she had never heard of one.
 

Relax and take a deep breath. Use Lamaze like breathing to get you through the compression. Yet, when they are ready to take the x-ray, you will be asked to hold your breath. Normally they will take four of the x-rays, one with each breast compressed from top to bottom, and one with each breast compressed from side to side. The machine will automatically release when the image is captured.
